Marathon #2...check!

Yes, Kyle ran his second marathon...is that just crazy, or what? He first ran the St. George Marathon with some of his friends while Melanie was serving a mission. He did zero training and actually pulled off great timing, 4:19. He ran alongside Melanie's cousin, who actually ran the whole marathon with NO shoe laces! Now that is just super crazy!

After that experience, Kyle vowed never to run another marathon again! He was in so much pain and was sore for weeks. Well, once he heard that his siblings would be running the marathon this year, he didn't want to miss out. So the past few months, Kyle has been training for this event. Poor guy insisted on running in the awful summer heat to prepare himself for the marathon. He pulled through and ended up losing 15 pounds during his training season.

Kyle's two brothers, a sister, and his sister's friend all ran the marathon last weekend. They awoke at about 4am to shuttle to the starting line. At around 10am, we made our way over near the finish line to cheer on the runners, hold up our posters, and wait for our family to run by us.

One of his older brothers came in at 3:40-ish. He trained very well and didn't look exhausted at all by the end of running 26 miles. Next to pass us by was his sister and her friend. They also trained a lot, but in Idaho weather, so it was a bit warm for them down in St. George. Their time was 3:50-ish...I don't remember the exact minutes! ;p Then Kyle came trotting by. He looked great and didn't appear to be in pain, but he assured us that his legs and knees were throbbing. Luckily there wasn't a chafing problem this year like he experienced the last time he ran. His time was 4:30, a bit slower than his first marathon that he didn't even train for, but that's alright! Lastly, his other brother came in about 10 minutes after. They ran together for the first 23 miles, but then his brother needed to walk because of his legs, so Kyle took off. His poor brother looked so exhausted by the end of the race. He felt nauseated and actually sat down at the end of the race and fell asleep. All the while, we were wondering where he was and thought that he might have gotten lost! :p
It was a fun trip, too short like always, but it was a fun experience for Kyle to accomplish such a feat with his siblings!

I love all the Bryce pictures that are mixed in! My bro-in-law ran it too! We wanted to go up and cheer but decided it was too much drive time for right now....bummer or we could have cheered Kyle on too! Glad you survived it. This history teacher in me hopes you yelled "Nike" when you were done like the original marathon namesake runner is claimed to have done.... :)
